In the context of humanized childbirth care, a doula is a trained and qualified professional who actively participates in the following ways:

During pregnancy: by providing informational support on the physiology of childbirth, ensuring the pregnant woman’s right to choose and maintain autonomy, offering guidance on obstetric violence, and delivering both physical and emotional support.

During childbirth: by respecting and supporting the pregnant woman’s choices, providing physical and emotional support, promoting well-being, and utilizing non-pharmacological methods to relieve pain and discomfort.

In the postpartum period: by offering compassionate listening, support, and information about the baby’s first days and breastfeeding.
